Why Moving Country Can Help You Succeed As An Entrepreneur

Could moving to another country help you succeed as an entrepreneur? If you ask many mentors and professionals, the answer is yes. Changing countries can often lower barriers to entry or give you a strategic advantage over your competitors. It can also help you get out of a bad situation back home and give you a fresh perspective that enables you to set up a more successful business. Here are some of the reasons in more detail as to why you might want to go to a different country for your entrepreneurial aspirations.

Lower taxes and better incentives

For many entrepreneurs, living in the West has become unbearable. Lots of governments now charge taxes that are so high that it makes it difficult to generate real profits and income. However, in many countries around the world, taxes are much lower. For example, Estonia has an e-residency, and the UAE provides tax cuts in locations like Dubai that attract founders and keep more executives and highly successful people from paying excessive amounts to the government. When taxes are low, it means that you can reinvest more of your profits in your business. You can also sometimes get special grants or credits that reduce your taxes to zero, especially if you provide benefits to the host country like research and development spending or employment.

Entry into new markets

According to Robinson Immigration, a visa expert, many entrepreneurs will also travel overseas and get executive visas, especially in places like the US. This allows them to move closer to lucrative markets and untapped customers where incomes are high. Sometimes these growth opportunities are far in excess of what would be possible back home. The challenge, of course, is to understand local needs and requirements. Markets can differ significantly from one place to the next, so appealing to them is the main challenge.

Moving to a new country also builds critical skills that are key for business development, such as patience and resourcefulness. When you’re in a new country, you may need to deal with a fresh bureaucracy or a different type of language. If you are dealing with these issues head-on, then it can create a stronger personality that would not have developed otherwise. You are less likely to feel incentivized to crash out if you’ve worked your way up through varying levels of challenges.

Lower operating costs

At the same time, many overseas territories have lower operating costs. Rent, food, services, and utilities are often cheaper in countries outside of the West, especially outside of major Western cities where economic activity is concentrated. Improved weather and lifestyle can also make a difference. Avoiding long, dark winters, especially in the Northern Hemisphere, can have a dramatic effect on mood and vitality.

Broader perspectives

Finally moving to an overseas location to start a business can give you broad objectives. When you learn about other cultures, you suddenly gain a sense of empathy that enables you to deal with your partners, customers, and other stakeholders better. Yes, you can still take calculated risks, but that’s what separates regular founders from the elite.
