How to Balance Studying and Working

James Weaver Published
How to Balance Studying and Working

Many people want to improve their lot in life, and one of the best ways of doing this is through study. However, if you already have a full-time job, it can feel extremely daunting to have to juggle studying around an already demanding career. But it is possible – and what’s more – it can prove to be very valuable as well. So, if you are looking to fit your two lives together that little bit more smoothly, here are just some of the ways that you can do this.

Create a Clear Plan

Without a clear plan, you are going to struggle to merge together the two different aspects of your life. So, you need to work out the times that are going to be best for you to study. The weekends are usually prime time. Of course, you may need to sacrifice some of your other commitments to do this effectively. Some people work best early in the morning, whereas others are night owls. Thankfully, there are plenty of digital ways to learn online such as A level revision which give you a degree of flexibility in your studies. Ultimately, you have to discover the way that you work best and schedule your time accordingly.

Update Your Employer

If you are studying a subject which is going to be directly useful to your job, you may well find that your employer is supportive of the path that you are taking. You may even be able to negotiate a working schedule which is more study-friendly or get a contribution towards your studying.

Look After Yourself

It is worth acknowledging that what you are trying to do is challenging and you are not a superhero. Therefore, you need to be especially careful when it comes to looking after your own health and mental wellbeing. Physical exercise is a useful stress reliever and is not something that you should sacrifice in favour of your other commitments. There are plenty of other distracting activities out there which can all help including listening to music, practicing yoga, writing in a journal etc. Ultimately, you can discover what works best for you.

Find a Comfortable Working Environment

The working environment that you choose can end up having a big impact on your productivity and overall studying ability, so it is worth picking carefully. Perhaps you have a home office or you prefer to head over to your local coffee shop. Maybe it is a combination of environments as a change of scenery can help out when it comes to stimulating the brain.

You are always going to have your ups and downs when it comes to balancing studying and working, but keep reminding yourself that the rewards are worth the effort that you are putting in now.
